A Little Tale

During our English class on Friday, we've talked about London. Of course, royal guard came up as well in the conversation. So, while I was heading home at the evening, I came up with a little fairy tale about the guards.

A long time ago, on the place where now the Buckingham Palace stands, there was a resting place for an Animal King — an ancient creature of immence power. People can only guess what he looked like, but most suggest that it was a turtle-like magnificent beast of great size. His goal was to keep balance in life of this area, and this is not an easy matter at any point. One can only obtain such powers while asleep, otherwise all the knowledge rushing to your head from every grass, every animal, every branch of every tree will make you lose your mind. And that is why the Animal King was sleeping all day long.
But, of course, he was vulnerable when he wasn't awake. So, subconsciously  he would summon some of the nearby animals to protect his sleep. Those binded to serve would feel pushed to a specific place where they would stand for a couple of hours, observing if any threat is approaching. While it was a hard duty, especially for a small animal, everyone knew it is required to defend their balance. If, however, someone didn't want to serve the King, it was always free to leave the valley that would later become the Palace.
Under King's watchful and reasonable rule, life was prosperous. And that was what attracted humans. When they first came into the valley, they were unaware of King's presence, and they weren't close enough to provoke his silent guards.
Unfortunately, it wasn't like this forever. At some point people that lived there decided that they need big houses made of rock. And they started violating the balance that King held sacred. This is how the war between Men and Animals begun in the valley.
While single man had no chance against big predators, their strength was in numbers. And slowly, they started to win the battle. Animal King saw that the balance is being ruined even further by this war, and he was desperatly searching for solution. He was trying to reach out to humans, so that they would know about his presence and his power, but they were blind and deaf, unable to see and hear him. In great sadness, Animal King surrendered his rule over the valley, unable to prevent any further damage. He would hid himself in a secret cave in the middle of valley, ordering all animals to flee as his last will.
Unfortunately, this wasn't the end for Animal King. Atop the cave city have risen, and the civilization were growing more and more with every passing year. At some point, people discovered magic and started experimenting with it. One of such experiments resulted in a magician learning about Animal King and his power to bind other creatures under his will to protect him, and wanted to gain control of the King to bind other people under his will. He found the cave and constructed a machine of incredible power, that would allow the Animal King to directly control humans as well as other animals.
At this point, the cave was already hidden under the Buckingham Palace. Of course, this magician would first go to control the British Queen, but Animal King was able to resist his will. Enraged, magician cursed his machine, making it so that if the Animal King won't use his abilities for longer then several hours, the machine would torture him.
The pain and suffering of Animal King wouldn't go unnoticed. Magician's son, guessing that his even more secretive than usual father has something to do with it, followed him up to the cave where the machine was endlessly torturing the Animal King. Horrified by what he saw, the boy run to the British Queen, telling her everything he knew at that point. The Queen was enraged by this, and ordered the guards to capture the magician and release the creature. However, when the guards arrived there, magician would refuse to follow them. Instead he would disappear in a firestorm, burning several men alive. And without him, Animal King could not be free.
In order to help the tortured creature, British Queen offered a deal everyone agreed on — the King would take control of the guards, binding them to places near the Buckingham Palace. This is where Royal Guard's discipline really comes from — they are controlled by Animal King, who still is hoping to see the sunlight once more.
