Here's a little something that came across my mind as I was sitting hungover after having a bit too much tequila, trying to process just what in a sweet tit (hi there, Timothy) am I doing with my life: smart people is an illusion.
I'm not trying to say that all people are dumb. In fact, I'm stating quite the opposite — smart people as a way of dividing people into different groups is a bit arrogant and I would personally call it "wrong", but who am I to judge what's right and wrong in today's world.
Here, I was called smart on several occasions, over the things I've said about life. That was a long time ago, but I still feel a bit proud over the fact that I was able to impress someone in a way that this person decided to call me smart. However, now I am trying to understand just what it means, and I came to a conclusion that it is a way of pointing out someone over the observable result of this person's mental activities. If you hear something that makes you take a moment and think, I guess, you're likely to see the narrator as a smart person. If you see that someone is able to solve an issue that looks complicated, you're sure as hell to think that this person is smart.
However, what I am trying to impose here, is that, unlike appearance, what happens in one's mind is a mystery. Naming someone "smart", while pushes the subject out of line of other people over this particular feature, in fact, gives this false feeling of separation. By creating "smart people" in your head, you end up having a category of "average folks", or even straight up "dummies", depending on just how rude you are inside. But, as I said earlier, you can't get into other's head. People who you don't consider smart, can, in fact, be brilliant! You just never happened to get into a right enviroment with them.
Where does this thought take me? I came to a conclusion that I, personally, have to learn to see some of the people I know a bit differently. When I see a girl solving mathematical equation I'm unable to even look at without getting a headache, it's not about her being smarter than me, it's about effort she puts in. And instead of accepting the fact that life is unfair and some people are good at something, I gotta learn something new.
Here's a fancy example — a friend of mine told me that back in school he was unable to understand fractions. Looks simple, but he just couldn't get it, until his parents got him through all the explanations and countings the coins from the jar over and over again. And I could bet, that nowadays he's better with them than I am, because it took me no effort to understand fractions back then. All his effort is likely to be still paying off, as well as my lack of one.
Welp, I don't even know why I had to say this, but I did, so here you go. Treat people as best as you possible can, and I wish you all the great things.
